KL-1V  – Fire-retardant paint for protection of electric cables

1. FIELD OF APPLICATION AND PROPERTIES

Fire-retardant paint "KL-1V" is a suspension made of antipyrite, gas and foam forming fillers with non-organic additives in organic emulsion.
Under high temperature the coating forms foamy layer, preventing fire from penetrating into the insulating jacket of the cable.
The coating based on fire-retardant paint "KL-1V" is designed to protect cables from inflammation and fire spread, used in open air and under agressive conditions.

2. NORMATIVE AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

"KL-1V" Fire-retardant paint for electric cables corresponds to fire-safety requirements, set by Fire Regulations 238-97 "Fire retardant cable coatings. General technical requirements and test methods" preventing flame spread.

3. TECHNICAL PROPERTIES

Density, kg/m3, not less than                                1300+100
Content of non-volatile matters, % mass.                 70±5
Colour                                                                  light to dark brown

Theoretical consumption and recommended thickness of the film

                                                                                                                                             4. SURFACE TREATMENT

For application of the coating the surface should be clean and dry. The dust and dirt should be removed by wet cloth. Grease and oil stains should be removed by a solvent (it is recommended to use solvent No. 646). If a solvent is impermissible, detergent solutions can be used. Cable marks should not be painted. For this purpose they should be protected by adhesive tape.

5. APPLICATION

Application conditions
Ambient temperature - not less than +5 °Ñ;
Relative air humidity - not more than 85 %;
Application method
The material should be applied either by high-pressure airless spraying devices with plunger pump («WAGNER HC 55 E», «GRACO») or manually by means of a brush or roller. The coating should be applied in 2-3 layers. The first layer (priming) should be applied with consumption of 170-200 g/m2. The priming layer should increase the adhesion of the paint to the surface treated. The paint can be diluted with water (up to 5-10% of the initial mass) as the priming layer. In this case the paint should be thoroughly mixed with electric mixer equipped with turbulent-type cap for 3-5 minutes. The subsequent layers should be applied not earlier than 4 hours after application of the priming layer with consumption of up to 600 g/m2 unless the required final thickness of the layer is reached. The interlayer exposition should amount to not less than 6-8 hours.
The final drying-out period amounts to 2 days.
Cleaning of tools
Tools should be washed immediately after application.

6. OPERATING CONDITIONS AND LIFE TIME OF THE COATING

The coating is designed for operation in open air and under agressive conditions.
Operational temperature: -40°Ñ up to +50°Ñ
The operation period of the coating is not less than 25 years.

7. PACKING AND STORAGE

Fire-retardant paint "KL-1V" is supplied in metal 25 kg pails.
The storage period of the paint in dry conditions under temperature not less than +5 °Ñ and not higher than +40°Ñ in manufacturer's packing amounts to 1 year.
