LATIK-KD – fire-retardant varnish compound

1. FIELD OF APPLICATION AND PROPERTIES

The coating is designed to protect glued wood from fire and fire spread. Finishing varnish "Zatschita" is used as auxiliary material during application. The finishing varnish is used to improve such operational properties of the coating as wtare-proofness, durability, etc., as well as for decorative purposes.

2. NORMATIVE REQUIREMENTS

The fire-retardant and decorative coating based on fire-retardant varnish compound "Latik-KD" complies with fire safety regulations stated in Fire Code (NPB) 244-97 "Construction materials. Decorative, finishing and facing materials. Floor coating materials. Roof water-and heat resistant materials. Fire risk indicators".

4. SURFACE TREATMENT

For application of the coating the surface should be clean and dry. The dust and dirt should be removed by wet cloth. Grease and oil stains should be removed by a solvent (it is recommended to use solvent No. 646). In case of high humidity, natural or forced drying should be applied (by means of thermal generating units). Primer is recommended to enhance the adhesion of fire-retardant varnish compound to the surface treated.

5. APPLICATION

Application conditions
ambient temperature— not less than +5 °Ñ;
relative air humidity - not more than 85 %;
the humidity of the treated surface of the glued wood should not exceed 12-14% of mass.
Application method
The material should be applied either by high-pressure airless spraying devices or manually by means of a brush or roller.
The fire-retardant varnish should be applied in 3-5 steps with total consumption of 750+50 g/m2. Interlayer drying time amounts to 2-4 hours (depending on the temperature and humidity of the environment). It is not recommended to apply forced drying by means of thermal generating units. Grinding of the surface coated with fire-retardant varnish can be done with fine abbrasive material. Dilution of the fire-retardant varnish is not recommended. The finishing varnish should be applied 2-4 hours after application of the final layer of the fire-retardant varnish. The finishing varnish should be applied in one step with consumption of 150-200 g/m2 depending on the surface type and expected usage conditions. Dilution of the fiishing varnish is not recommended.
The final drying-out period amounts to:
from dust - 20-30 minutes;
before grinding - 1,5-2,0 hours.
Cleaning of tools. After application of fire-retardant varnish "Latik-KD" the tools should be cleaned with water. After application of the finishing varnish the tools should be cleaned with a solvent (it is recommended to use solvent No. 646).

6. OPERATING CONDITIONS AND LIFE TIME OF THE COATING

The coating should be used at temperature of -50 up to +50 °Ñ. The coating can be used with air humidity of 100 %.
The life time of the coating is not less than 15 years.

7. PACKING AND STORAGE

The fire-retardant varnish is supplied in metal pails of 25 kg, 35 kg. The storage period of the varnish in manufacturer's packing in dry conditions at temperature not lower than +5Ñ amounts to 6 months.
The finishing varnish is supplied in metal pails of 10 kg,  25 kg. The storage period of the varnish in manufacturer's packing in dry conditions at temperature not lower than +5Ñ amounts to 12 months.
